KaraUke Tech Spec

A typical KaraUke live gig requires the house setup detailed on this page. We are flexible on some requirements if necessary: please contact us to discuss.

Note: venue to provide a sound engineer; see additional comment under Vocals, below.

Overview / Typical Stage Setup

KaraUke Stage Setup

Vocals

SM58s or equivalent to cover:

  • One for guest singer - a second is useful for duets/groups.
  • Backing vocals/MC - minimum of 3, but as many as available on a per-gig basis. Typically one per ukulele player, see below.
  • Microphone stands for each vocal - we use tablets and will provide mounts/clamps for each microphone stand.

Note: KaraUke is live-band karaoke. Audience members with varying stage and microphone experience are invited to choose a song and join us to sing - this combined with a wide repertoire of music genres dictates a need for proactive sound engineering throughout.

Ukuleles

We use semi-acoustic/electric ukuleles and FX. Typically 4-6 DIs required, one per ukulele. Please contact us for exact number on a per-gig basis. We can provide DIs if necessary.

Bass

House amplifier and/or DI.

Drums

House drum kit. Please provide exact details in advance, especially regarding "breakables". Typically we require a minimum of:

  • Shell pack: Minimum of kick, 1-2 rack toms and floor tom.
  • Snare: house snare or can be provided.
  • Snare stand.
  • Hi-hat stand.
  • Minimum of 2 [3 preferably] cymbal stands to cover: ride + crash(es).
  • One DI for any triggered electronics on a per-gig basis.
  • Drum microphones to suit as per venue.

For very small gigs we can provide cajón or other percussion if necessary, which will typically need mic'ing.

Monitors/Foldback

To cover:

  • Guest singer(s).
  • Backing vocals/MC.
  • Bassist.
  • Drummer.

Accessibility Note

One of our members has an assistance dog: please ensure all on-site staff, including stage management, crew, bar staff and security are aware a working animal may be present and assist - where necessary - with shielding so that members of the public are aware that he is not a pet available for play. Booker/promoter/venue will be informed in advance if the dog will be present.
